One of the many benefits of the residential plumbing trade in Martinsville and the surrounding areas is that rarely are two days the same. As a field plumber, you might be installing a water heater in the morning and performing a large excavation project to re-plumb a main water line in the afternoon. That’s just for starters. Read below to learn more about the industry outlook, education and training, and more.

Plumbing Satisfaction
According to the career website, Owl Guru, 62% of plumbers said they’re happy with their current job; furthermore, that same amount reported that they feel a sense of satisfaction in making their communities safer.
Our mission at Hudson Plumbing is to ensure ALL of our employees are satisfied in their career decision. That’s why we’re committed to creating opportunities for advancement within the company, and we’re always finding ways to incentivize a culture of learning and hard work.
Typical Tasks and Hours
Plumbers at Hudson undergo two levels of training; firstly, if you don’t already hold an Indiana plumbing license, you are enrolled in Mechanical Skills in Indianapolis, where you attend class (currently online) one evening a week. Secondly, you perform extensive on-the-job training while working alongside a senior technician and/or installer.
As a field plumber, you begin your day at 7 AM where you attend a morning stand-up to discuss lessons learned from the previous day among your supervisors and peers. During this time, daily assignments are handed out and you have the opportunity to ask questions regarding the day. Hours are designed to be routine, meaning sometimes you’ll get off work around 3 PM and other days may be between 5 and 7 PM, but you’ll consecutively work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
Education and Training
We spoke a little bit about your education opportunities at Hudson Plumbing above, but let’s break it down one step further. The plumbing industry is primarily broken into two levels:
While attending school, you will hold a plumbing apprenticeship license. Hudson Plumbing sponsors you at this level and ensures you receive around 2,000 hours of regulatory training.
Upon graduating with Mechanical Skills and passing your licensing exam, you will be classified as a journeyman plumber and will now hold the necessary certifications and experience to lead and complete both small and major plumbing tasks.
WE’RE LOOKING FOR TALENTED, HUNGRY PROFESSIONALS
Hudson Plumbing believes a work-life balance is essential to a productive career, and that’s why we structure our workday so that you have as much time at home with your family as possible. And while you’re at work, we look for opportunities to challenge you so that you become the best residential and commercial plumber you can be while serving Martinsville, Mooresville, Bloomington, and the surrounding areas.
